Delmarva Residents Weigh In On Gay Marriage Debate

It's an issue that has been in debate for quite some time. Whether on a state or federal level, lawmakers have been talking about same sex marriage. Now, President Bush is calling on Congress to pass the marriage protection amendment to the Constitution. That amendment would define marriage as a union only between man and woman.

"Our policy should aim to strengthen families, not undermine it and changing the definition of marriage would undermine the family structure," the president said.

And many Americans seem to feel the same way as the President. According to an ABC News Poll, 58% of people believe gay marriage should be illegal. Feelings are divided between many on Delmarva.

"Yes, yes I'm against gay marriage. I believe a woman should be with a man and a man should be with a woman, not man with man or woman with woman," said Lester Martin.

"I think they should have their own choice. I think they should be allowed to choose but I think it's a difficult issue," said MY MOM.

Even with mixed emotions among Americans, the decision will be left in the hand of lawmakers.

Monday, the Senate began three days of debate on the marriage protection amendment.
