Baseball Realization...

When Nate and I went to see the Orioles get pounded last week (15-1), we saw a young guy who with injuries that were pretty obviously a result of fighting in Iraq. Both of his legs were gone from at least the mid-thigh down and he was using prosthetics and a cane. He also had a serious burn on the back of his head. He was there with someone I presume was his girlfriend and some other friends.

At first we didn't see the burn, and I didn't consider the possible causes for the loss of his legs. After I saw it, I felt sick to my stomach that I haven't taken some kind of action that suggests to anyone outside of my friends and family that I think that sending our soldiers to be injured and killed for no good reason is a terrible idea. Just a little while ago in the grand scheme of things, people felt like they could change something as tremendous as a war. I guess when your first vote doesn't matter, and the loser takes office anyway, you don't feel like what you say means anything to the government.

It's also unfortunate that some people in this country think that not supporting the war means not supporting our troops. This is the same sort of viewpoint that led from us having a problem with Osama Bin Laden to invading a country having nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks that no one had even heard from since I was in the 5th grade. Illogical reasoning doesn't lead to anything good.

I don't know what to do or how to feel about it. I can't pretend to be aware of much of the situation in general. I don't want to just stand by and wait for 2008 for reason to reign again in the United States but I don't know what to do to help either.
